Missions

At MUMC, our missions truly reflect who we are and what we believe. Our varied ministries enrich the lives of those in our local and regional communities and strengthen and develop Christian communities across the globe. Our outreach seeks to live out God's command that "each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms" 1 Peter 4:10 Details of our ongoing missions are listed below. Join us in serving God!

  • Sandwich Ministry

North Carolina has one of the highest percentages in the United States of children under 18 years of age who are food insecure on a regular basis. As a church family, we reach out to hundreds of adults and children throughout Mebane to ensure they are fed.

The Sandwich Ministry is a Mebane community outreach program that started many years ago and is shared between various local churches. The need arose based on the realization that children receiving breakfast and lunch assistance during the week in the school cafeteria are also hungry on weekends. Every Saturday, bag lunches are prepared and delivered to our friends in the community who are less fortunate. Children are not the only ones who struggle with hunger and consequently our ministry includes adults as well.

On the third Saturday of each month at 9:00 AM, volunteers of all ages gather at the MUMC Fellowship Hall to prepare 150 lunches which include 2 sandwiches, chips, crackers, dessert and a drink.

How can you help with this mission? Join us on the third Saturday to help prepare and/or deliver, donate food or make a monetary donation to help support the program. If you have questions email MebaneUMC@gmail.com

  • Backpack Ministry

Every Friday during the school year, 20 backpacks of food are delivered to a local elementary school to children identified as food insecure. A small group of volunteers gather at the church on Thursdays to pack the food and prepare the backpacks for delivery.

Backpack contents include a breakfast food, items for a family meal and a snack. Donations of small jars of peanut butter and jelly, tuna, chicken, beef stew, spaghetti sauce (NO GLASS), noodles, mac-n-cheese, instant potatoes, green beans, peas and canned fruit are always needed.

If you would like to help with this ministry please call the church office at 919-563-4301 or email MebaneUMC@gmail.com

  • Prayer Shawl Ministry

Are you a knitter? Do you like to crochet? Come and join our friendly group as we make shawls that are given to those either facing an illness, experiencing a loss or celebrating a special event. It is our way of creating a tangible expression of God's all-encompassing love. Our shawls are prayed over and blessed in worship and then made available to those needing a reminder that they are cared for.

Our group is made up of members of the community. We meet on the last Sunday of each month from 2:00 - 4:00 in Room 212 at the church. We invite your participation in this ministy by making a shawl, praying for the ministry or requesting a shawl for a friend or loved one who needs to feel God's embracing love and care.

Yarn is available or you may use your own. It doesn't matter what your skill level is, we are a supportive group sharing patterns, skills and great fellowship. Don't know how to crochet or knit? Don't let that stop you, we can get you started! For information email  MebaneUMC@gmail.com
